Councillors to be sworn-in tomorrow
KINGSTON, Jamaica — As two magisterial recounts get underway today, Local Government Minister Desmond McKenzie announced that all candidates who have been duly confirmed as having won divisions in the November 28 elections, will be sworn into office as councillors on Thursday.
The two divisions slated for a recount today are the Toll Gate Division in Clarendon South Western and the Moneague Division in St Ann South Eastern.
According to the Electoral Office of Jamaica (EOJ), the Jamaica Labour Party’s (JLP) candidate Radcliffe McDonald from the Toll Gate Division won by a margin of one vote in the final count. There were 23 rejected ballots.
Meanwhile, the recount for the Moneague Division in St Ann South Eastern scheduled is to take at the St Ann Resident Magistrate’s Court at 10:00 am.
In a news release yesterday, the EOJ said JLP’s Delroy Kelly won by a margin of 13 votes. Kelly was up against the People’s National Party’s Lloyd Garrick.
