Labour minister calls for greater public sector productivity
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Minister of Labour and Social Security Shahine Robinson has called for more public sector organisations to boost productivity levels so the country can enjoy greater economic success and prosperity.
Robinson was speaking at the monthly board meeting of the Jamaica Productivity Centre (JPC) chaired by President of the Jamaica Manufacturers Association, Metry Seaga.
In a wide-ranging presentation to the newly installed JPC board — which comprises leading members of various private and public sector organisations — Robinson charged the board to continue its work of spreading the productivity message across the island as productivity levels has a far-reaching impact.
“I know that you all are aware of the importance of productivity if we are going to fulfill our promise to make this country truly prosperous. Therefore, the strategic focus of the JPC must be to support the Growth Agenda of the administration — which includes its goal to achieve five per cent GDP growth in four years (5 in 4). The JPC must also focus on influencing behavioural change through the provision of technical capacity building and customised productivity solutions to private and public sector entities,” Robinson said.
She thanked the JPC for its work in assisting a number of departments within her own ministry, adding that she hoped to see more organisations making use of the skills and talents of the JPC in improving productivity.
“I expect that there will be collaborations with other ministries, departments and agencies and I assure you that I will do everything within my power to assist you in your undertakings.”
