S Catherine Racers registered a convincing 55-22 win over defending champions Clarendon Gaters as the 2016/2017 Berger Elite League netball competition continued at the Leila Robinson Courts last Saturday.

Gaters, coached by Dalton Hinds, were suffering their second straight defeat, while the win for the Racers, coached by Christopher Smart, was their second from three outings.

Leading the scoring for Racers were Anna Kay Griffiths with 33 goals from 42 attempts, Shedieky Hamilton-Barnes with 16 goals from 21 attempts, and Nordia Hanson with six goals from 10 efforts, while Taniel Roberts with 15 goals from 25 attempts and Deonie Gordon with five goals from 17 efforts scored for the Gaters.

Quarterly scores were 10-8, 29-9, and 38-16 for the St Catherine Racers.

Meanwhile, St Ann Orchids, coached by Janet Guy, continued their unbeaten run by defeating the Marvette Anderson-coached Kingston Humming Birds 43-35 for their third straight win, while the Birds were losing their first game from three matches.

Simone Forbes with 21 goals from 29 attempts, Sabrina Spence with 15 goals from 15 attempts and Shanice Beckford with seven goals from 10 efforts scored for the Orchids, while leading the scoring for the Birds were Kera Christie with 20 goals from 25 attempts, Shennell Riley with 10 goals from 15 attempts, and Tristina Harwood with five goals from eight attempts.

The quarterly scores were 13-7, 20-17, 27-28 before Orchids rallied in the fourth and final quarter to defeat the Birds.

The Under-21 Suns, coached by Conrad Parkes, beat Under-21 Shiners, coached by Tracey Ann Griffiths, 45-36 to register their first win in two starts. The Under-21 Shiners were losing their third game from as many matches.

Simone Gordon with 28 goals from 35 attempts, Hasana Williams with 15 goals from 24 attempts scored for Under-21 Suns, while for the Under-21 Shiners, Shimona Nelson scored 27 goals from 35 attempts and Kestina Sturridge got nine goals from 15 efforts.

Quarterly scores were 11-7, 20-18, and 32-26 for the Under-21 Suns.

The St Ann Orchids lead the points standing with nine points, followed by St Catherine Racers with six, Kingston Humming Birds also on six, Manchester Spurs on four, Under-21 Suns on three, St James Sharpes on one, with defending champions Clarendon Gaters and Under-21 Shiners pointless.
