Business was far from brisk Friday last at Coronation Market — the result, Thursday Life was told, of the recent upsurge in violence. A wide array of the must-have ground provisions, fruits and vegetables were, however, in abundance, save for sorrel which, according to vendor Nadine Williams, “is not in abundance to match its demand”. She also mentioned that gungo peas was easing into its peak season, but warned that consumers would have to fork out more dollars on account of its scarcity. As vendors waited patiently for customers, they expressed their hope for business to pick up in the next couple of weeks leading up to Christmas. They also stressed the need for increased security so that customers would feel safe as they shopped. “The recent violence is a huge part of the lack of customers, but we need the people to realise that it is now over, and it’s time to get back to business,” shared vendor Jennifer Johnson.Thursday Life concurs.
