ROOTS singer Jah9 is holding her own among the women in reggae as well as this new breed of reggae revivalists. She released her much-anticipated sophomore set, 9, in September.

The nine-track album is distributed by VP Records.

Its tracklisting comprises Prosper, Humble Mi, Hardcore, Unafraid, In The Spirit, In The Midst, Natural Vibe, Baptised, andGreatest Threat To The Status Quo featuring Akae Beka.

Prior to her set’s release, Jah9 embarked on a six-week tour which began in July at NorthWest World Reggae Festival in Portland, Oregon. Other North American dates came in Seattle, Washington; Vancouver, British Columbia and Toronto, Ontario in Canada; Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; Rochester, Ithaca and Manhattan (SOB’s) in New York; Denver, Colorado; and Humboldt, California (Reggae On The River).

The gig took her to Nairobi, Kenya, and ended at Diani Beach, also in Kenya.

The singer was among the performers for Diaspora Calling — a two-day event highlighting Haitian art at King’s Theatre in Brooklyn, New York, in April.

The show was promoted by Lauryn Hill, a former member of Grammy-winning group The Fugees, two of whose members (Wyclef Jean and Pras) are Haitians.

Jah9, whose given name Janine Cunningham, emerged on the reggae scene in 2013 with the single

New Name.
