Maverley/Hughenden FC continued their giant-killing run in the Red Stripe Premier League under new Head Coach Anthony Patrick, with a gutsy 1-0 win against Arnett Gardens at the Anthony Spaulding Sports Complex yesterday.

Jamoy Sibbles, who missed putting Maverley/Hughenden ahead in the first half, made no mistake in the second by scoring from a direct corner kick in the 62nd minute. It was the second win in succession under Patrick, who took the team under his wings two weeks ago and opened his campaign by promptly steamrolling FC Reno 3-0 in his first match.

Patrick was quite pleased with the team’s performance, bolstered with a second win from as many games since taking over and said: “It was a workmanlike performance from the three players up front – Nicholas Scott, Jamoy Sibbles, and Raymond Williamson. We asked them to press the Arnett Gardens backline a lot. Arnett play with three at the back and we asked the front three to spread wide and pressure the defence.

“Because of this we should have scored in the first half, but it was Sibbles who missed, but he made amends with the winner in the second half,” explained Patrick.

Jerome Waite, the Arnett Gardens head coach, said: “Although we missed our chances in both halves through poor execution, we must not take anything away from Maverley. They came here with a purpose and they worked assiduously and it eventually paid off.”
