KINGSTON, Jamaica — Minister of Finance and the Public Service, Audley Shaw, says that the Cabinet has given the FINSAC Commission seven months to produce their report on the 1990s financial meltdown.

Shaw told the monthly Mayberry Investments Limited investors forum at the Knutsford Court Hotel, New Kingston Wednesday night that the cabinet took the decision at its meeting on Monday.

“The report is coming. The writing of the report will commence shortly, and by cabinet decision they have been given a maximum of seven months for the completion and publication of that report,” Shaw told the forum.

The supplementary estimates of expenditure tabled in the House of Representatives on January 10, and passed on January 17, include an allocation of $35.7 million for the completion of the report.

However, Shaw told OBSERVER ONLINE that the report is not likely to be completed and sent to the ministry prior to mid-year.

The previous government had refused to provide funding other than for the typing of the report since 2013. However, Shaw promised during the February, 2016 general election campaign that if returned to government, his Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) government would provide funds to complete the enquiry and the report.
