Elderly woman perishes in Westmoreland fire

WESTMORELAND, Jamaica – A 73-year-old woman perished in a fire that engulfed her home in Dung Cane Hill in New Works, Westmoreland yesterday morning.

Detectives assigned to the Westmoreland police division are currently probing the circumstances surrounding the death of the woman identified as Cynthia Woodbine, a pensioner.

Reports from the Bluefields police are that about 3:00 am residents saw fire and alerted them and the fire department. The Savanna-la-Mar Fire Department responded and on their arrival the house was seen engulfed in flames. After the cooling down operations, Woodbine’s charred remains were discovered among the debris.
