Arrest warrant for Walker discharged
KINGSTON, Jamaica — The arrest warrant issued for Danville Walker yesterday was discharged when he appeared in the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court this morning.
Walker’s attorney, Keith Bishop, apologised to the judge for the misunderstanding that led to his client being absent from court yesterday and the matter bound over to a new date.
Yesterday evening, Bishop had explained in a statement that he had omitted to advise Walker of yesterday’s court date as he (Bishop) was dealing with several other matters, and that he had already reached an agreement with the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions for Walker’s case to be heard on February 20, 2017.
The case against Walker stems from an allegation that while he was the commissioner of customs he breached the Contractor General Act by not providing, in a timely manner, requested information during a probe by the contractor general into the export of scrap metal during a ban.
Walker is now the managing director of the Jamaica Observer and Appliance Traders Ltd.
