Wayne Shaw is the new president of the Kingston and St Andrew Football Association (KSAFA).

Shaw, the former general secretary, was elected unopposed at a regular monthly meeting held at the offices of the Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) yesterday.

The post of president became vacant following the recent resignation of the long-serving Ambassador A B Stewart Stephenson.

Shaw was elected to serve KSAFA as president for the next three-and-half years by 29 of the 37 registered clubs and three of the four affiliates that comprise the KSAFA. Eight clubs and one affiliate did not forward a nomination.

Immediately following his election, Shaw outlined during his tenure he aims to further improve the capability for KSAFA clubs and to work in tandem with the JFF to assist football clubs islandwide, to improve performance and operate with greater efficiency and accountability.

“The overwhelming support from the delegates is really a good sign. I am therefore pleased with the support shown by the delegates and the confidence shown in me to continue on the path that began to flower under the outgoing president.

“We have a club development fund, which at every competition, we assist the clubs with funds ranging from $12,000 to $30,000, but I would like to have these figures increased. I am involved with a club and the sum of $30,000 just serve for two match days. We will be now be looking at ways to increase these sums and the welfare for the clubs.

“At present, my aim is to unite KASFA and the JFF. I am not in the politics; I am in football and my aim is to establish a harmonious relationship for the benefit of football, not only in Kingston and St Andrew, but football islandwide,” Shaw outlined.

The new president urged the KSAFA membership that only as a united force will success be forthcoming.

“We are only as strong as we are united, and as weak as we are divided, so I am confident that the council will continue the same support that they gave Ambassador Stephenson to ensure that the Association thrives,” Shaw said.

Before passing on the baton to his successor, outgoing president Ambassador Stephenson thanked council members and delegates for their support over the years.

“Every journey has its end and I now look forward to continued progress by passing the baton to a new generation of leaders led by the incoming president Mr Wayne Shaw,” said Stephenson, who resigned recently to return full-time to his law practice.
