UPDATE: Tourist among 8 injured in deadly Trelawny crash
TRELAWNY, Jamaica — The Falmouth police have identified the driver of the Toyota Yaris motor car who was killed in a three-vehicle collision on the Salt Marsh leg of the Northern Coastal Highway earlier today as 25-year-old Christopher Cooper of a St Ann address.
According to the police, Cooper was driving a Toyota Yaris motor car towards Falmouth about 1:30 pm with three passengers aboard.
The lawmen said that while approaching a bend on a section of the Salt Marsh main road, he lost control of his vehicle and collided with a Nissan AD Waggon motor car carrying four passengers, before ending up in the path of a Hino bus, which was transporting 33 tourists to the Sangster International Airport.
The bus and the Nissan motor car, the police said, were travelling toward Montego Bay.
According to Police Sergeant Kirkland Cross of the Trelawny Traffic Department, during the collision, Cooper sustained head injuries and was taken to the Falmouth Public General Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The passengers in the Toyota Yaris and the Nissan motor car, as well as one from the bus, also received injuries during the accident.
The crash resulted in a pile-up of traffic on the usually busy roadway.
