Medical assistant pleads guilty to stealing baby
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Lorna Williams this morning pleaded guilty to stealing a day-old baby from the University Hospital of the West Indies (UHWI) in December.
Williams, 47, was arrested and charged with child stealing after the baby was found in her possession in Rollington Town, Kingston. She was employed as a medical assistant at the hospital.
A news release from the hospital last year said the baby girl was taken from a cot adjacent to her mother’s bed.
At the time of the baby’s disappearance, the hospital said the only people on the ward were nurses, doctors and other medical staff who were making clinical rounds.
Williams pleaded guilty to forcible abduction before Chief Parish Judge Judith Pusey
She will be sentenced on March 30.
