Cops issue warning after pesticide-sprayed plantains stolen in St Thomas
ST THOMAS, Jamaica — The Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) through its Corporate Communications Unit (CCU) is urging the public to exercise care when purchasing plantains as some were stolen from a farm in Acadia, St Thomas.
The CCU said the stolen plantains were sprayed with Lannate, Ridomil and Maconzeb pesticides on Tuesday.
Some of the side effects of these pesticides are: dizziness, nausea, and headache and in serious cases can lead to the formation of tumors.
Anyone who has purchased large portions of agricultural produce, especially plantains, may contact the JCF’s Praedial Larceny Unit at 927-1731-50, if they suspect that the goods purchased might have been stolen.
