Cops charged with collecting funds to release murder accused face court today

KINGSTON, Jamaica — Two police officers who have been arrested and charged for soliciting money for the release of a man who was charged with an October 2015 murder, are scheduled to appear before the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court today.

Members of the Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB) arrested 37-year-old Detective Corporal Roger Taylor and 30-year-old Detective Constable Alex Francis, who allegedly solicited $270,000 for the release the man.

However, when the man was not released a report was made to the CIB and the officers arrested.
