MP upset about resumption of de-bushing programme in Portland
PORTLAND, Jamaica — East Portland Member of Parliament, Dr Lynvale Bloomfield and his constituents have expressed concern over the resumption of the Government’s de-bushing programme in the parish.
The de-bushing aspect of the programme was discontinued late last year by Prime Minister Andrew Holness after members of the People’s National Party charged that the move was a ploy by the Jamaica Labour Party Administration to win the local government election.
Bloomfield, a member of the PNP, said in a release a short while ago that, a contract was recently signed for $6 million in Kingston and work started in Portland without his knowledge and involvement.
This involves work in the Blue Lagoon— Blue Hole area, guided by a MP from another constituency, said Bloomfield.
“We call upon the prime minister to immediately exert his moral and executive authority in stopping this travesty. This aberration flies in the face of the rule of law, due process and indeed our cherished democratic values. We look forward to a speedy intervention by the Government,” he added.
