JAS salutes women in agriculture
KINGSTON, Jamaica — President of the Jamaica Agricultural Society (JAS), Senator Norman Grant in recognition of International Women’s Day yesterday saluted the women who have made “tremendous contributions to agriculture”.
The JAS stated that conservative estimates indicate that women comprise some 50 per cent of the agricultural workforce in Jamaica.
As such, the recent phenomenal growth in agricultural output, which has contributed to the three per cent projected growth in the last fiscal year, is equally due to the contribution of women as much as men.
The JAS said it continues to empower and encouragewomen in agriculture “as we proceed in our quest to build Jamaica and grow our economy”.
Yesterday’s Women’s Day was celebrated in Jamaica under the theme ‘Be Bold for Change’.
