Olympian Christania Williams is among a select group of senior athletes who have been making visits to their alma mater to encourage students as they prepare for the upcoming ISSA/GraceKennedy Boys’ and Girls’ Championships.

Williams along with representatives from telecommunications firm FLOW visited the Clarendon home of the 2016 Girls Champions Edwin Allen High School on March 10 to execute the second instalment of the company’s ‘Journey to Champs’ school tour.

During the high energy visit, FLOW also made a donation of $100,000 along with a hydration kit that is expected to boost the comfort of the team as they participate in this year’s event.

The ladies of the Clarendon-based institution, Edwin Allen High are seeking to retain their title and a fourth consecutive win as coach Michael Dyke reasserts his confidence in the team. “We have an experienced team and we’re very confident that we will do well this year, as such, the girls will maintain their supremacy in defending their title.”

He, however, stated that the only weakness which the team faces is monetary constraints as the team strives to be mentally and physically prepared. “Finding adequate funds always proves challenging,” Dyke pointed out.

“We are very elated about the sponsorship from FLOW because we are always in need and with them (FLOW) coming on board to provide some assistance, we are very grateful and we must assure them that we will put it to good use in helping our team in preparing for the championships,” he shared.

Williams also commended FLOW for the initiative. “It’s always good to see corporate Jamaica reaching out to schools in need, and Edwin Allen is certainly deserving of any assistance they can get. I have always wanted to come back to talk to the girls and to contribute in any way I could to the school which was pivotal in my development as an athlete,” she explained.

Khamoy Farquharson, captain of the team, also shared her enthusiasm going into the Championships and positively declared regaining their title. She further noted that the sponsorship is one that will undoubtedly benefit the team and thanked the telecoms firm for their continuous efforts. “Over the years FLOW has been with us and I must commend them for the sponsorship. We are really grateful for this contribution and we will put it to good use.”

‘Journey to Champs’ is a yearly activation led by FLOW in top performing rural and Corporate Area schools that participate in the ISSA/GraceKennedy Boys’ & Girls’ Championships.
