Grey Ground gang linked to kidnapping of Manchester businessmen
MANDEVILLE, Jamaica — The Manchester Police say that a man believed to be aligned to the Grey Ground gang in the parish is now in custody in relation to a kidnapping incident involving two businessmen yesterday.
At least two other members of the same gang have escaped.
Police reports are that early afternoon on Thursday two gunmen tied up the men at a house in a Mandeville community and then took them into bushes before a phone call was made to the wife of one of the men demanding that a sum of $1million be left at a particular point in the town.
The instructions were reportedly followed.
However, undercover police intervened and arrested the man now in custody who came to collect the money.
Police say the businessmen were found unharmed and the money returned.
Commanding officer for the Manchester Police Division Wayne Cameron has named the Grey Ground gang as one of the groups responsible for a number of criminal activities in the parish.
Grey Ground is one of the troubled Manchester communities.
