A notice to remove derelict motor vehicles from the sidewalk on a section of Lyndhurst Road and Lyndford Avenue in Kingston within 24 hours has been ignored since the notice was issued last Thursday.

Up to yesterday, the relics were still on the sidewalk blocking pedestrian access and, as the notice said, “causing public nuisance”.

Copies of the notice from the Kingston and St Andrew Corporation are pasted onto most of the vehicles. However, the name of the person to whom the notice is addressed does not appear on the documents.

The notice bears the heading “The parochial roads law” and is signed “on behalf of the superintendent of parochial roads and works, Kingston and St Andrew”.

Basically, it states that if the “encroachment is not removed or abated within the time specified, the superintendent of parochial roads and works, Kingston and St Andrew, will proceed to remove the encroachment or cause it to be removed in such a manner as he may think fit, and you will be liable to pay the cost of such removal”.

On Friday when these photographs were taken, people were seen appearing to be scrapping what they could from some of the vehicles. Yesterday a woman was observed searching one of the vehicles.
