ST ANN, Jamaica — The St Ann police have held a person of interest in relation to Saturday morning’s murder of a woman in Runaway Bay.

The woman, identified as Melissa Nelson, was shot dead while a man was shot and injured in the Bellair Housing Scheme in Runaway Bay about 1:30 am on Saturday.

Reports from the police are that Nelson, who jointly occupied the house with two men, saw fire coming from a section of the house.  They reportedly opened the door to fetch water outside when a man opened gunfire at them.

The police were summoned and Nelson along with one of the occupants was taken to hospital where she was pronounced dead and the man admitted in serious condition. The third occupant escaped unhurt.

At a press conference at the St Ann police headquarters on Monday, Deputy Superintendent of Police in charge of Crime Richard Hilton made an appeal for people with information to tell the police what they know. He said investigations have been progressing.

In the meantime, the police are also seeking the public’s help in bring the perpetrators responsible for the killing of a man in Steer Town on Thursday evening.

Forty-seven-year-old Wayne Ferguson of Steer Town was shot and killed in Roaring River by unknown assailants.

Reports from the police are that about 7:30 am, Ferguson was standing along the roadway when he was pounced upon by armed men who shot him. He was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead.
