NSWMA completes clearing of Spanish Town Road
KINGSTON, Jamaica — The National Solid Waste Management Authority (NSWMA) says that, along with the Jamaica Defence Force (JDF), Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) and the Kingston and St Andrew Municipal Corporation (KSAC), it has completed the clearing and cleaning of the corridors along Spanish Town Road from the vicinity of the Sandy Gully Bridge to Portland Road.
The government agency in a release Tuesday said that the corridor was cleared over a four-day period with approximately 600 truckloads of dirt, scrap metal and varying solid waste being removed to the Riverton disposal site.
NSWMA said it would continue community relations initiatives and dialogue with residents and business operators in an effort to maintain the clear state of the road. It also said that the police would periodically ensure the road retained its current state.
“As long as I am leading the hard working men and women of the NSWMA and the MPM Waste Management Limited, I can tell Jamaica, in particular people who traverse this area, and residents, that the area will not return to the terrible state that it was in, we cannot reach this point and return to that. No way,” said Executive Director of the NSWMA, Audley Gordon.
