After Laws of the Code’s rousing performance in the Harlequin maiden special weight event last Saturday, breeder, owner and trainer Carl Anderson was overjoyed by the effort of his roan filly.

Anderson said he is even considering the possibility of entering the offspring of “After the race, I spoke with the jockey [Odeen Edwards] and he told me that she (“I am hoping that after a week or so, I am in a better position to see how she is doing and hopefully we can put her in the Jamaica Oaks,” Anderson said.Entering the lane, Anderson said although the win was expected, his charge showed good potential.“I think that “As expected, I didn’t think that she would lose against these horses as this was a poor crop of maidens and she has run against better horses in the past and she put them away. She showed potential when winning,” Anderson said.

Anderson said he is even considering the possibility of entering the offspring of Coded Warning – Laws of the Cat in the 10-furlong Jamaica Oaks. The Jamaica Oaks is confined to native-bred three-year-old fillies only and is scheduled to be run on April 29.

“After the race, I spoke with the jockey [Odeen Edwards] and he told me that she (Laws of the Code) feels as if she can get a distance of ground and to me that is a good sign.

“I am hoping that after a week or so, I am in a better position to see how she is doing and hopefully we can put her in the Jamaica Oaks,” Anderson said.

Laws of the Code showed unusual speed and raced into second position as Peeping Tom (Jerome Innis) led the 10-horse field.

Entering the lane, Peeping Tom, under strong handling, continued to fight off the challenge from Laws of the Code in deep stretch but the far-striding roan filly proved the stronger of the two, edging away to win by one-and-a-half lengths. First-time runner Cartel (Kerry-Gayl Robinson) was third. Laws of the Code ran six furlongs (1,200 metres) in a fairly good time of 1:15.0 minutes behind splits 23.2 and 47.1 minutes.

Anderson said although the win was expected, his charge showed good potential.

“I think that Laws of the Code enjoyed the conditions on Saturday plus she wasn’t prepared extensively enough for that race. We went back to the drawing board and prepared her a little better for this six-furlong race and that seemed to have helped somewhat.

“As expected, I didn’t think that she would lose against these horses as this was a poor crop of maidens and she has run against better horses in the past and she put them away. She showed potential when winning,” Anderson said.
