CanEx Jamaica will host its first ‘Seminar Series’ at the Jamaica Pegasus hotel in Kingston on Friday, May 5, 2017.

The seminar series, which will feature high-level content on the latest advances on the regulatory, legal, investment and medicinal cannabis landscape, comes on the heels of CanEx Jamaica – Business Conference and Expo, which was held for the first time in September 2016.

“CanEx Jamaica was very successful and provided an important step in elevating the discussion from a business and industry perspective in Jamaica to a global burgeoning market. A number of strategic relationships and business partnerships were forged and the event was covered in many media outlets, including a front page feature of the Sunday New York Times,” CanEx Jamaica event producer, Douglas Gordon, stated.

He argued that the cannabis industry, having contributed more than US$150m in tax revenues and with an estimated economic impact of US$2.5b to the 2015 Colorado economy alone, can play a significant role in Jamaica’s economic development.

“The local cannabis industry is developing apace and we feel it’s on the cusp of exponential growth in Jamaica. Our first conference facilitated a number of business relationships and we look forward to continuing to drive increased industry knowledge, awareness and collaboration. As Jamaica looks to viable opportunities for economic expansion, we are confident that this industry will be recognised and embraced for its potential to impact positively on the island’s development and prosperity,”Gordon argued.

The conference is expected to facilitate a mix of high-level discourse and practical opportunity led by global experts with real-life application in the industry, including Ebbu out of Colorado.

The conference will also feature presentations by Jamaican experts, policymakers, researchers and business people. CanEx Jamaica speakers and panellists will speak on four key tracts: Medicinal Cannabis, Health & Wellness, Business & Legal, and Processing & Cultivating.

The ‘Seminar Series’ comes at a time when there appears to be sharp divide between certain arms of the Government about the road forward. The environment is causing unease among the industry stakeholders and the investors who have already poured millions into the development of the legal cannabis industry in Jamaica.
