KINGSTON, Jamaica — Opposition Member of Parliament (MP) Peter Bunting this afternoon took Security Minister Robert Montague to task for what he said were unfulfilled campaign promises.

The former security minister was making his contribution to the 2017/18 sectoral debate. 

Bunting said that chief among the broken promises was a promise of an unprecedented security budget made by Montague. He reasoned that the security minister had promised ‘billions’ to be allocated to the nations security budget, and reasonable people would have expected a 15-20 per cent increase. He said this has not been done.

Bunting also alluded to dogs being imported from Cuba, an increase in mandatory minimum sentences for gun crimes and using licensed firearm holders and retired security personnel to serve as volunteer district constables, saying that Montague has broken most of the Jamaica Labour Party’s major campaign promises.

He said that the only major promise which had been fulfilled was one to buy used cars for the police and this”would cost the Jamaican taxpayer dearly”.
