Four members of the board of the Jamaica Badminton Association resigned in dramatic fashion last Wednesday, forcing the remaining members to call an emergency meeting to have key positions filled.

Courtney Henry (president), Linley Reynolds (first vice-president), Sally Chung-Rowe (treasurer) and Andre Wiltshire (Council member), who were duly elected a year ago, all demitted office, forcing the remaining members to act swiftly to fill the void.

In the hastily called council meeting on Saturday, Nichole Case, the former second vice-president, was elevated to president and Terry Walker, a former council member, was appointed treasurer, while Antonio Bell remains as general secretary.

The remaining council members are Barbara Johnson, Sean Rennis, Kemar Valentine, and David Thomas, who is immediate past president.

The secretariat received all four letters of resignation on Wednesday despite them being dated separately, but there was no reason forthcoming from the association as to what prompted the action.

“The remaining council members will continue to manage the operations until the next Annual General Meeting (AGM),” Case said.

Case, who has been serving badminton for the past three years, continued: “I remain committed to volunteering my skills to the development of badminton. I am confident in the expertise and commitment of the current executive team as we move forward.”

She also stated that a date will be announced about the holding of the next AGM.

The position of first vice-president remains open.
