Woman accused of wounding gets bail after a year in jail
A woman who has been languishing in jail for over a year was Monday offered bail in the sum of $100,000 when she appeared in the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court.
The accused, Sophia Laylor, is charged with wounding.Following a successful bail application by her attorney Tamika Harris, Laylor was offered bail by Parish Judge Simone Wolfe-Reece.Harris, during her bail application, told the court that Laylor was remanded in psychiatric evaluation and had remained there since. Laylor, she said, is now fit to plead.Laylor, who is accused of stabbing the complainant in the left shoulder, was offered bail with one or two sureties on condition that she reports to the Denham Town Police Station every Wednesday between the hours of 6:00 am and 6:00 pm.A June 9 mention date was set for her to return to court.
