Minister awaiting report on death of babies at Grenada hospital
ST GEORGE’S, Grenada (CMC) — Health Minister Nicholas Steele says he is awaiting a report from the medical director at the General Hospital that will provide him with information on the recent deaths of babies at that institution.
Earlier this week, during a post-Cabinet briefing, Steele said that three babies died last Friday at the General Hospital and investigations were ordered. On Friday he said that since his disclosure, there have been conflicting reports surrounding when the babies died.“The source of that initial information was from credible sources and that is why I decided to share it with the media, but now I await the report that should explain what happen and what caused the death of the babies,” the health minister said, adding that before disclosing further details he will first present the report to the weekly Cabinet meeting on Monday.“After it’s shared with the Cabinet, then what has to be shared with the media will be shared.”He said the report will also include details on the number of mothers who lost embryos under 27 weeks since the start of this year.
