Cavalier clip Santos for KSAFA Super League honours
Cavalier SC unhinged Santos FC 2-1 to win the 2017 Magnum/KSAFA Super League football final at Constant Spring Complex Friday night.
Goals from Alex Marshall, in the third minute, and skipper Ryan Miller (89th) booked them a place in the Confederation Play-offs, where they will vie for one of two spots to next season’s Red Stripe Premier League.Sheldon Jones replied with a headed goal for Santos in the 90+2 minute.Cavalier, who were relegated from the RSPL two seasons ago, had to fight off their stubborn opponents despite getting the early opening goal. With the alluring prospect of returning to the RSPL, Cavalier raised the ante from the opening whistle and duly went ahead through Marshall. However, from that point on to the final minute, they had to weather a gathering storm that was mounted by Santos. Within two minutes of falling behind, Santos redoubled their efforts, but Jaedine White, the 16-year-old Cavalier goalkeeper, prevent what appeared a sure goal with a miraculous save, after springing to his right like a tiger to keep out a Sherton McPherson shot. Both teams again went close but the attempts were capably dealt with by opposing goalkeepers White and Santos FC’s Derland Hyatt, who is also 16.Though the teams appeared evenly matched, it is the final result that counts. Cavalier scored two goals, while Santos wasted numerous chances — their Achilles Heel — in a commendable effort.
