Residents flee homes as flooding affects Myersville, St Elizabeth
SANTA CRUZ, St Elizabeth – Fifteen houses in communities in the Myersville Division of south east St Elizabeth were flooded during heavy rain since Monday night forcing some residents to flee, according to councillor for the Myersville Division Layton Smith.
The councillor who spoke to OBSERVER ONLINE by telephone said the Myersville Housing Scheme, Austin, Warminster, Russell and Lititz were among the communities most affected.Smith said several residents of Lititz who were flooded out three weeks ago have again been forced to flee their homes.
Smith said that at mid-morning, the road from Nain to Myersville remained impassable because of flood waters.
He is also reporting that communities in south Manchester, including Downs and Montpelier, which are adjacent to communities in Myersville have also been badly affected by flooding.“A lot of water has come down to the flat off Spur Tree Hill and we are all feeling the effects,” Smith said.
Other reports from across St Elizabeth also suggest serious flooding in Newton, in the northern section of the parish.
