Kingston College’s Javain Brown and Lennon High’s Fitzroy Cummings are two of the 10 newcomers that have been invited by Head Coach Theodore Whitmore to the senior Reggae Boyz training camp.

Ironically, both Brown and Cummings are central defenders and captained their schools to the respective Walker Cup and Ben Francis Cup knockout titles last year. Brown plays for Harbour View, while Cummings represents Sporting Central Academy.The other newcomers in the 24-man squad are Shawn Genius (Reno), Rodave Murray, Demarley Samuels (Waterhouse), Kemar Bennett (Harbour View), Leonard Rankine (Sandals), Johann Weatherly (Montego Bay United) and two college footballers, Zachery Wallace and Casey Reid.Arnett Gardens’ in form midfielder Fabian “Paco Blacks” Reid makes a return to the set-up, along with St George’s College’s schoolboy Alex Marshall, who recently led Cavalier to the KSAFA Super League title.Amal Knight (UWI) and Damion Hyatt (Arnett Gardens) are the two goalkeepers.The rest of the squad includes Ladale Ritchie, Owayne Gordon, Jordaine Fletcher (Montego Bay United), Rosario Harriott and KC schoolboy Fabian Grant (Harbour View), Jamie Robinson (UWI), Tevin Shaw (Tivoli Gardens), Shamar Nicholson, Jameil Hardware (Boys’ Town).The training camp, which begins today, consists of local- based players in preparation for upcoming matches and tournaments.The first assignment will be away to the number 17th-ranked Peru set for June 13 at 7:30 pm Jamaica time. Peru is the fifth country in the current top-20 FIFA rankings that the Reggae Boyz would have played since 2015. The others are Argentina, Chile, Uruguay and Mexico.The Boyz are to defend their Caribbean title in the finals of the Scotiabank CFU Men’s Caribbean Cup in Martinique.The team is also scheduled to compete in the CONCACAF Gold Cup, starting on July 9. — Howard Walker
