UPDATE: Flash Flood Warning still in effect for 9 parishes
KINGSTON, Jamaica — The Meteorological (Met) Office says a Flash Flood Warning for low-lying and flood-prone areas of St Mary, Portland, St Thomas, St Ann, St Catherine, Kingston and St Andrew, Manchester and Clarendon will remain effective until 5:00 am tomorrow.
Hanover, St James, Trelawny, St Elizabeth and Westmoreland have been put on Flash Flood Watch.
The Trough which has been affecting sections of the island for the past two days, is expected to remain in the vicinity of Jamaica for another two days and will continue to influence weather conditions across the island.“Satellite imagery and radar reports indicated that light to moderate showers affected most parishes, especially sections of northern and southwestern parishes throughout this morning into this afternoon,” the Met Office stated. They added that projections are for showers and thunderstorms, which may be heavy at times, to affect sections of all parishes, especially northern and southeastern parishes this evening until Friday.Additionally, an area of unstable weather currently just west of Jamaica could spread rainfall activity across western parishes tonight.A Flash Flood Warning means flooding has been reported or will occur shortly. Motorists and pedestrians should not attempt to cross flooded roadways or other low-lying areas as strong currents are likely. Residents in low-lying areas should be on the alert for rising waters and be ready to move quickly to higher ground.
