Jamaican defender Brown’s Macedonia transfer hinges on late FedEx package
JAMAICAN centre-back Richard Brown’s chances of playing professional football with Macedonian top-flight outfit FK Skopje has taken a dramatic turn, his signing stalled by a FedEx package sitting in a closed office with a transfer deadline of midnight Sunday, September 6, looming.
Jason McKay, owner of the McKay Security Football Group, which includes McKay New Raiders, said on Friday that Brown’s signing has been left in a precarious position, held up by a FedEx package sent from Jamaica on August 26.
“It has been nine days,” McKay bemoaned. “I have no idea why it has taken so long. The package is now verified to be in Macedonia. However, FedEx isn’t open on weekends.
“All it takes is for some store owner to open his door for a few minutes so the federation there can get the documents. These are important documents such as police and school records, which the federation requires to be original copies,” McKay added.
“The package was sent on August 26 via FedEX after being verified by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to meet the transfer window of midnight, September 6,” he emphasised.
Reports out of newly promoted FK Skopje, who lost their third match of the new season Friday, 1-2 to Bashkimi, indicated that Brown was on the verge of signing for the club now sitting at the bottom of the 10-club First Football League on three points from six games.
FK Skopje, who won promotion to the First League, June 1, after finishing as runners-up in the
Second League, are bolstering their squad for a third stint in nine years among North Macedonia’s top-tier teams.
Meanwhile, Brown, raring for a shot at his first international break, said he has been giving his
best with his family back home in mind.
“A lot of sacrifice has been put into this. I am here trying to make myself, McKay Raiders and
my family proud,” he said during a break from training.
Brown has been a feature player in Jamaica’s Premier League since age 18, first representing Cavaliers. The 25-year-old has also donned the colours of Tivoli Gardens, Dunbeholden, Racing and St Catherine Police.
