Nadeschico sets the juvenile pace
After Nadeshico’s victory in the Lotto Juvenile Stakes last Saturday, trainer Anthony Nunes made it known that his filly was matured enough and that’s why he gave her this early run.
The Lotto Juvenile Stakes which officially signalled the start of the two-year-old campaign for this season carried a purse of $1 million and was run over three furlongs (600m).
Nadeshico with Dick Cardenas up, sat behind her stablemate
Necromancer (Wesley Henry) at the off but once she got into full stride, she blew past the leader and went on to score by three lengths in a time of 35.4 seconds.
Necromancer held her gallop well and stayed on for second place, one-and-a-quarter lengths ahead of
Asnate (Paul Francis) in third.Owned by Elias Haloute and Stephan Narinesingh,
Nadeshico is a dark bay filly by
Natural Selection –
First Sushi. With this first run under her belt, Nunes said that he expects a lot from his filly down the road as she is showing signs of getting a distance of ground.“They are babies right now and to show you how racing life is so unpredictable, the other filly that came second beats
Nadeshico every morning at exercise.“I don’t breeze two year olds until their knees are closed and when they are matured enough. They will tell you as a trainer when they are ready to do a little more. Both of these horses,
Nadeshico and
Necromancer, showed that they are precocious and ready to do some serious work and they have progressed nicely.“
Nadeshico, she is going to be a nice filly. She is bred to get a distance of ground, and I do expect some nice things from her down the road “ Nunes said.
