Lilliput Rovers march into Senior League semis

MONTEGO BAY, St James — Lilliput Rovers secured the third spot in the semi-finals of the St James Football Association Sandals International Senior League on Tuesday after coming from behind to earn a 1-1 draw with relegated Club Stars FC in their third-round cross-zone game at the UDC field.

Lilliput Rovers completed their fixtures with 22 points, same as second-placed Heights FC, with both behind leaders Catherine Hall FC (28 points) who played out a 0-0 draw with Seba FC at UDC on Monday.Seba FC, who are on 20 points and have a game in hand against Marl Road FC, are in contention with Melbourne Mind Game FC (21 points) for the final spot in the top four.Seba FC could have taken their place in the semi-finals on Monday, but wasted several chances against Catherine Hall FC who were completing their schedule after having secured the top spot in the points table three games earlier.Meanwhile, Club Stars, who ended with 11 points, will be relegated along with Mountain Villa FC (four points) — both at the foot of the table. On Tuesday at UDC, Club Stars went into the game knowing that only a win would see them retaining their placs in the Senior League next season and took the lead in the 45th minute through Devroy Leslie, who was scoring his sixth goal of the season.Ricardo Blake scored the equaliser in the 53rd minute for a share of the points.Interestingly, Leslie and Terrick Dixon — the latter leading the scoring race with nine goals — combined to score 15 of their club’s 16 goals all season.
