Another hand for Poker Star

Talented Tony K seeks two in a row, Crucial Appeal redemption

While the six-furlong (1,200m) Sports Journalists of Jamaica Trophy is the slated feature race on the midweek card at Caymanas Park tomorrow, most attention will be focused on the top-listed event, an Open Allowance down the five-straight chute.Eight horses have been entered for this sprint, with recent winner

Talented Tony K and

Poker Star renewing rivalry.The

Complete Racing Guide assesses the chances of the eight starters in post-position order, in what is sure to be a pulsating dash.

POLLY B – Coming off a 28-day break,

Polly B is renowned for his speed but might find it a tad difficult beating these from the one draw.

POTCHEEN – Trying to find his way back in racing.

Potcheen raced for the first time in over a year on May 27 over seven furlongs (1,400m), and was never part of the proceedings. It is going to take time for this eight-year-old gelding to recapture his previous form. Note: the visor is off.

BIRDIE MY LOVE – This is her second race at this level. On April 15,

Birdie My Love did well enough when finishing sixth behind

Gary Glitter,

Crucial Appeal and

Soy El Senor. Trainer Fitzroy Glispie has rested his charge for 53 days and she should now be ready for a capital effort. In her penultimate race, B

irdie My Love defeated

Lottery Ticket, who has since gone on to win. Not without a shout.

CRUCIAL APPEAL – Has been very consistent in his races of late.

Crucial Appeal has been racing with the best on offer, with his last win being recorded over the five straight.

Crucial Appeal is as speedy as they come, yet of late he is showing that he can be rated. Comes in with the same weight as his last race and, if rated properly, will do well in this straight event.

UPPA TUNE – Left us on a winning note on April 15 in a seven and a half furlong (1,500m) event. Given the race history of

Uppa Tune, this short sprint might not be too much to his liking, at least now in his career.

TALENTED TONY K – Finally showed on May 27 that he belongs with the top horses when defeating

Campesino and

Chace The Great over five and a half furlongs (1,100m). Very fast and again, will have to be caught in this one.

Talented Tony K carried 110 lbs (50.0 kgs) in that May 27 victory and will tote 126 lbs (57.0 kgs) tomorrow, an increase of 16 lb. This significant change in weight might just be to his undoing. Still in with a loud shout.

KING D – Coming to grips with racing at this level,

King D is a lover of the five straight, with his last two wins being accomplished down the chute. Still needs time.

POKER STAR – On the rebound. After a long absence

Poker Star returned on May 10 in Open Allowance and did not impress. Then on May 27 over five and a half furlongs,

Poker Star was summarily put in his place by

Talented Tony K,

Campesino and

Chace The Great, finishing fifth some four lengths behind the winner. Now, racing against

Talented Tony K again,

Poker Star holds the benefit of handicaps, moving two pounds down from 120 lbs to 118 lbs, while

Talented Tony K has moved from 110 lbs to 126 lbs.

Poker Star has a grand chance of winning but we will just have to wait and see which

Poker Star comes down the five straight tomorrow. The choice is

Crucial Appeal to win.
