KINGSTON, Jamaica (JIS) — Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Justice, Carol Palmer, has commended the media for its partnership in reporting on human trafficking and the ongoing efforts to tackle the crime.

“I don’t know of anything else that the media houses have taken on with us in the fight (in this way),” she said.Palmer, who is also the Chair of the National Task Force Against Trafficking in Persons (NATFATIP), was addressing a ceremony to hand over a bus to be used by the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) Anti-Trafficking in Persons Unit, on June 1, at the Ministry’s Constant Spring Road offices.She said media support is critical, as anti-trafficking efforts require a multifaceted approach and support from all levels.“This is not a fight for the Government, for the Task Force, or the police; this is a national fight, and we all have to play our part,” she said.Palmer further reiterated the call for persons to be vigilant and to report all suspicious cases. “If you see something strange, you are not required to investigate or even to go to court; you are just required to say what you have seen. The team will do the rest,” she pointed out.
