Prayer and fasting won’t fix crime problem
Dear Editor,
I hear many Jamaicans saying that the issue of crime and violence is so bad that the country needs a day or a week of fasting and prayer.FYI, prayer without action is powerless; faith without works is dead. Many Jamaicans prefer to bow to politicians rather than coming together as a people and demanding action from those whom we choose to represent us.We prefer to suggest that “more time is needed” rather than to hold the Government accountable. When politicians make promises to get votes, then by God, from the day they get into office accountability is key.The argument used by the Government that crime and violence in Jamaica was caused by the PNP and the PNP only should be the same words that cause the Government’s demise. You cannot promise the people in a country of 2.8 million, where 1,500 are murdered annually, that you have the solution, and then when placed in the position to provide solutions, do nothing! It is amazing that 136 Jamaicans were murdered in the month of May alone, and the Government has not uttered one word of condolence to the families or address to the nation. Now some Jamaicans want to talk about the “youth and vibrancy” of Mr Holness. Truly, ignorance and illiteracy will be the death of us as a nation. So while many sit and shower praises on the Government, the sad truth is that prayer and fasting will not fix this problem that Jamaicans have brought upon themselves. As much as God is a loving God, He gave humans free will. When we use that free will to do rubbish, do not expect Him to reach down from heaven and fix it.
