Garvey cracks 212 to lift Kingston past Portland in Senior Cup cricket
GARTH Garvey’s smashed his way to a double century of 212 runs as he piloted Kingston Cricket Club to an innings and 299-run victory over Portland in their two-day Senior Cup cricket quarter-finals match played at Sabina Park last weekend.
Scores in the match:Portland 111, and 124 all out, Kingston 534 all out.
Portland batted first and were bowled out for a meagre 111 with Kern Duckett scoring 32 not out, Akeim Clarke 24, as Markino Mindley captured five wickets for 35 runs, and Paul Harris took two for 17.
Kingston in their reply rattled up a mammoth total of 534 runs all out with Garvey scoring 212, and aided by a century of 104 from Brandon King, as Herman Henry took four wickets for 134 and Adrian Henry grabbed three for 92.
Trailing by 423 runs, Portland batted a second time and were again bundled out for 124 runs with Anthony Guiness scoring 26, while Harrison took four wickets for 35 runs, and Jevaughn Buchanan took three wickets without a run.
At Up Park Camp: Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) won by seven wickets against St Catherine Cricket Club.
St Catherine batted first and could only muster 127 all out (Oraine Williams 37, Kevon Lettman 30; Shamarie Brown five for 32). JDF replied with 140 all out (Dennis Bulli 55, Shaun Bennett 17; Federick Wright four for 12, Bevon Brown four for 66).
Batting a second time and trailing by 13 runs, St Catherine made 170 all out with Williams 26, Brown 25, Kenar Lewis 24; Brown four for 20 and Bulli three for 21.
The Soldiers needing 157 for an outright victory replied with 159 for three wickets to win by seven wickets, with Joseph Palmer scoring 74 not out, and Damion Grey with 27 not out.
At Melbourne Oval: Defending champions Melbourne gained first innings points over St Ann. Scores: Melbourne 217 all out and 136 for seven wickets; St Ann 76 all out.
Nikita Miller added 55, Andre Carty 44, and Trevon Griffiths 41 in MElbourne’s total, against Damani Sewell with five for 85, and Marlon Joseph with three for 24.
St Ann in their first innings reply were bowled out for a paltry 74 with Kevin Daley contributing 17, as Christopher Lamont captured six wickets for 36 runs, and Miller three for 16.
Melbourne batting a second time were 136 for seven wickets. Lorenzo James with 42, Javell Glenn 32, against Sewell with three for 45.
At G C Foster College: Westmoreland gained first innings points over G C Foster College. Scores: Westmoreland 143 all out (Nick Blackwood 51, Ramaal Lewis 25; Odane Vassell five for 34, Tyrone Daley three for 43). G C Foster 71 all out (Lewis took seven for 29, Michael Frew three for 13).
Westmoreland batting a second time made 217 all out (Blackwood 37, Rohan 37 not out, Ramone Francis 11; Shahid Crooks four for 16, Kenardo Fletcher three for 29), G C Foster were reeling at 46 for seven chasing 279 for victory when play ended.
