7-y-o boy fatally stabbed, grandmother injured in Guyana home attack
GEORGETOWN, Guyana (CMC) — Police in Guyana are searching for a lone suspect following the fatal stabbing of a seven-year-old boy and the injury of his disabled grandmother during a home invasion in East Bank Essequibo early Friday morning.
The victim, Adriel Aftab Mohamed, a student at Zeelugt Primary School, was killed during the attack at his home in the Zeelugt New Housing Scheme. His 71-year-old grandmother sustained injuries and remains hospitalised.
Deputy Commissioner and Crime Chief Wendell Blanhum said investigators are actively pursuing the suspect believed to be responsible for the incident.
According to media reports, the child and his grandmother were the only occupants of the house at the time. It is believed they may have awoken to find an intruder inside the home and raised an alarm before the attack occurred.
Police investigations are ongoing.
