Extensive teacher training gets underway as Education Ministry implements new curriculum
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Training for more than 7,000 public and private school teachers will get underway next week as the Ministry of Education Youth and Information (MOEYI) prepares for Phase 2 of the new curriculum for primary and secondary schools.
According to the ministry, the National Standards Curriculum (NSC) replaced the Revised Primary Curriculum (RPC) and the National Curriculum for Grades 7-9, formerly referred to as the Reform of Secondary Education (ROSE).
Beginning Monday, July 10, teachers from the ministry’s Regions 4 (St James, Hanover and Westmoreland) and Region 5 (Manchester and St Elizabeth) will be involved in training workshops at schools throughout the regions.
Training for teachers in the remaining four regions will be conducted from July 17 through to July 25, the ministry said.
This year the training will target primary level educators who teach Grades 2, 3, 5 and 6.
