Kingston Wharves are DOMINO KO CHAMPS
Kingston Wharves were crowned National Association of Domino Bodies (NADB) Kingston & St Andrew Region/Wray & Nephew White Overproof Rum Knockout (KO) champions for the second-consecutive year after brushing aside Seprod 59-49 in the grand finale at Jacisera Park last Friday.
In the one-hour contest, Kingston Wharves started off shakily and went behind 16-12 in the early exchanges, but once the men from King Port Building got into their strides, it was smooth sailing for the defending champions.
It was Kingston Wharves’ third title in four years.
Earlier, Kingston Wharves edged Wray & Nephew Limited 55-53, while Seprod got the better of Ministry of Finance 59-55 in their respective semi-final encounters to reach the final on a well-supported night at the new venue.
NADB first vice-president Humbert Davis said that the KO championship was a success and he thanked sponsor Wray & Nephew Limited for their support.
“This championship was tremendous; it was full of excitement and great moments. Everything turned out as we expected and our aim was met as well. We aimed to bring everyone together, both employer and employee, as one unit working as one and it turned out great.
“Over the years this tournament has grown from strength to strength. I believe that this year was better than last year in terms of how the tournament was run and the involvement from companies. I want to thank all teams that participated, and a big thank you to our sponsor Wray & Nephew Limited who continue to lend their support,” Davis told the Jamaica Observer.
The quarter-finals in the Domino League takes place today at National Housing Trust (NHT).
In Division One, champions Kingston Wharves take on National Commerical Bank, Seprod tackle Carib Cement, Wray & Nephew Limited go up against Urban Development Corporation, and Campari verus JUTC to complete the schedule.
Ministry of Finance will play Stewart Automotive, Jamaica Observer tackle Sagicor Jamaica, Registrar General’s Department face Port Authority of Jamaica, and NHT will do battle with Cari-Med in Division Two.
All games are scheduled to begin at 6:30 pm.
