INDECOM probing shooting of policeman’s daughter
KINGSTON, Jamaica — The Independent Commission of Investigation (INDECOM) has launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding a shooting incident involving an off-duty police officer on Saturday along the Bernard Lodge main road in St Catherine, which left a senior policeman’s daughter nursing gunshot wounds.
According to Assistant Commissioner of INDECOM, Hamish Campbell, in a telephone interview a short while ago, Chantal Allen, the daughter of Superintendent Calvin Allen, Head of the Traffic Police, was a passenger in a vehicle heading home when the driver swerved to avoid a man on the side of the road (or possibly in the road). The driver then stopped the car to check if the man, who was later identified as an off-duty policeman, was okay.
The policeman allegedly pulled his firearm and opened fire. Allen was shot twice in the leg during the confrontation.
Campbell did not reveal much about INDECOM’s progress in the investigation at this time.
