Seminar organised to strengthen financial institutions against fraud
ST ANDREW, Jamaica — The Jamaica Banker’s Association (JBA) Anti-Fraud Committee and the Jamaica Institute of Financial Services (JIFS) have organised an Anti-Fraud Seminar geared towards strengthening the defence of financial institutions and their clients against criminals.
According to an advisory today, the seminar will facilitate discussions about the current landscape of fraudulent trends and provide best practices to strengthen fraud prevention programmes within institutions
JIFS said a major area of concern is cyber fraud, as institutions seek to leverage technologies such as online banking, Automatic Teller Machines (ATM), Point of Sale Systems (POS) and mobile banking, to create greater efficiencies.
Opposition Spokesman on information and the knowledge economy, Julian Robinson, will give the keynote address, with presentations from other local and international speakers.
“At the end of the seminar we expect participants to be better able to recognise ways that fraudsters can place their institution at risk for reputational and financial losses and determine ways to assist in extending institutions’ line of defence,” the advisory said.
Participants include anti-fraud practitioners in financial institutions from the areas of commercial/retail banking, security, internal audit and information technology; security companies as well as law enforcement.
The event will be held on Thursday at the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel under the theme “Fraud: Strengthening our Defence — New trends in fraud prevention and Detection”.
