Cop praised for going extra mile with stranded motorist
ST CATHERINE, Jamaica — Police Constable Okeno Johnson has been the centre of praise and appreciation after a photo of him helping a stranded motorist in Hellshire, St Catherine on Sunday surfaced on social media.
The motorist shared the photo of the traffic officer assisting with the car in a Twitter post, with this caption: “Thanks to this Constable who stopped and helped us in Hellshire on Sunday afternoon @NatSecurityJA @JamaicaConstab. #GoodCops”
Johnson, in a subsequent conversation with OBSERVER ONLINE, said he was passing by when he saw the motorist and his passengers.
“They looked out of it and everyone was just driving pass. So I stopped and helped them sort it out. After that I escorted them to their destination to ensure that they arrived safely,” he explained.
The dutiful policeman admitted that the public’s positive feedback was “refreshing”.
“I feel really good you know, because everyone has a negative outlook on the force at this time. Right now I’m getting a lot of commendations and for once the police is not being bashed,” he said.
The motorist’s tweet also caught the attention of the Jamaica Constabulary Force, which shared the photo on its Instagram page on Wednesday, attracting more admiration from its users.
“Jamaica needs more people like this, It only goes to show that one bad apple can’t spoil the bunch,” one Instagram fan commented.
