It’s 10 years since Jimmy Grant died
Today marks the 10th year since legendary athlete and track and field coach James “Jimmy” Grant died of cancer.
He was 60 when he died on Monday, July 23, 2007.
Grant was head women’s track and field coach of the University of Iowa at the time.
Grant, born January 8, 1947 in Manchester, Jamaica, was the son of Claudius and Pearline Bailey Grant. An outstanding athlete while he attended Kingston College from 1960, he graduated in 1963 and attended Eastern Michigan University from which he graduated in 1971.
He received a master’s degree in physical education from the German College of Physical Education in Leipzig, Germany in 1982 and nine years later was inducted into the Eastern Michigan Hall of Fame.
He also coached at KC and St Jago High School.
