Lee, Munn-Barrow capture JGA Independence tourney
Tommy Lee captured the Men’s division of the rain-shortened Jamaica Golf Association (JGA) Independence 36 qualifying event, shooting a two over par 74 at the Golf and Country Club.
His scorecard reflected 16 pars and two bogeys, which occurred on holes three and nine. Former national junior representative Zachary Chong along with former JGA President Wayne Chai Cong both tied for second with scores of 81.
Other category winners included Clifton Johnson, who topped the Men’s 7-12 category, and Trevor Riley who won the Men’s 13-18 handicap category.
In the Women’s section, veteran national representative Jodi Munn-Barrow shot a three over par 75 on Saturday. This was good enough to capture the ladies’ section as the tournament was reduced to 18 holes because of inclement weather. Munn-Barrow carded four bogeys on holes four, six, 12 and 14, but added one birdie on hole nine to bring her score to three over. Yadires Fonseca captured the ladies 13-24 handicap division and Eryn Blakeley, daughter of former Jamaica national representative Leiza Munn-Blakeley, captured the junior section.
In the Super Seniors division, for men over age 60, Dr Guyan Arscott pipped Norris Riley due to a better back nine of 38. Both men were tied with 78 or six over par. Gordon Hutchinson, who shot 84, came out on top in the Super Senior 13-24 category, edging out George Wright by one stroke.
The next JGA qualifying event will be the Heroes’ Weekend 36 in October.
