D’ANGEL was the toast of the audience attending the Jamaica Cultural Development Commission’s Street Gala in Spanish Town, St Catherine, recently.

The dancehall artiste’s set comprised past hit songs as well as introduction of new ones, much to the delight of the crowd. The more than 2,000-strong audience drew close as she gave them over an hour filled with high-energy entertainment.

Her performance began with the popular Living Uptown (Downtown Girl).

“Being called to represent for my town was an honour. The crowd sang every song word for word and it goes to show that I am loved within my community. I could tell that they missed seeing me perform live. Before entering the stage, I carefully put together singles from my catalogue that were entertaining but fit for the younger crowd as well. As an entertainer. you have to be able to perform for all age groups,” said D’Angel, who hails from the old capital.

During her performance, she called up a fan to sing Love You Like Me, which left the crowd yearning for more.

Paying respect to Beenie Man, D’Angel performed their single Time Of My Life, while acknowledging him as, the ‘King Of The Dancehall’.

Before closing her set, she introduced the audience to her most recent release No Worries. The track is a collaboration with Spice.

“I performed No Worries toward the end of my set because I wanted the fans to understand that support and empowerment is everything. No Worries is very close to my heart, just as Stronger is and the two go hand in hand. Stronger speaks of the struggles I have been through, while No Worries speaks of the light at the end of the road,” she added.
