Police High Command to investigate allegations of victimisation
KINGSTON, Jamaica — The Police High Command says it takes seriously allegations made in the media by people who were identified as members of the police force concerning allegations of victimisation.
The investigation by the high command comes after allegations that some police officers are prevented from moving up in the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) because they refuse sexual advances from their superiors.
In light of the allegations, Commissioner George Quallo, this morning met with members of the high command to discuss the issue, according to a statement from the JCF’s Corporate Communications Unit (CCU).
Quallo said he has ordered that a probe be conducted to determine whether or not the established framework to deal with reports of unfair treatment within the force is working. If not, then what steps should be taken to ensure that the best interest of all members of the JCF is secured.
The Inspectorate of Constabulary will oversee the process and report its findings to the Commissioner within 30 days, the CCU said.
“I am reassuring the public that the necessary steps will be taken to ensure that the challenges within the Force are addressed”. He thanked the hard working men and women of the Force who continue to give Jamaica exemplary service even within the current challenges,” Quallo said.
