Five cops to stand trial November over shooting of Alpha student
KINGSTON, Jamaica — The five policemen charged by the Independent Commission of Investigation (INDECOM) with the shooting and injury of a Convent of Mercy Academy “Alpha” student in downtown Kingston are to stand trial in November.
The date was set earlier this month when the cops appeared before the St Andrew Parish Court.
Kirk Haye, Shaun Abrahams, Damion Gillespie, Archibald Wright and Warren Ramsey are charged with misconduct in a public office and refusing to give statements to INDECOM in its probe.
In July last year, the girl was shot while travelling in a robot taxi at the intersection of North Street and Mark Lane in downtown Kingston.
It is reported that the cops fired on the vehicle after the driver disobeyed their signal to stop.
The policemen, who are attached to Mobile Reserve, denied being in the area at the time of the shooting.
Eyewitnesses did not point them out in an identification parade.
