JPS darkness in Moneague
Dear Editor,
I live in Moneague, St Ann, and I have been compelled to conclude that this area must be at the lowest level of the Jamaica Public Service’s priority list.
There is hardly a week that passes that there isn’t a period of power outage (blackout), sometimes multiple periods in a given day and/or multiple days. If it rains heavily anywhere on the island you are almost sure to have an outage in the area.
This treatment has been consistent over the years, but seems to have worsened in recent days. When my wife and I were moving to the area some 15 years ago, we pondered getting and installing a water storage tank, just in case. What we didn’t contemplate was the need to probably secure a standby generator or our own solar-powered electricity system. Jamaica Public Service’s poor service has caused us and other residents in Moneague to be thinking seriously about alternatives. The company needs to do better, because Moneague and its environs pay electricity bills at the same rate as anywhere else in Jamaica, maybe even with one of the highest compliance rates. We aren’t benefiting from any subsidy or discount, so we demand better treatment.
Better must come, one way or the other.
